Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Center of Excellence building at Binghamton University will open sometime this fall. With the date quickly approaching, start up businesses that will utilize the space are preparing themselves.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced five businesses are to expand or locate at the university, all with different ideas and products.

One of these businesses is called Sonic Blocks. The company works to make speaker systems that users can utilize anywhere, anytime.

"Speaker systems that can be completely customized for consumers," said creator and founder of Sonic Blocks Scott Wilker. "So that they can listen to music where they want, when they want, how they want in a completely different way than they listen to music today."

Transforming the audio industry is a goal of the company.The company was created by Wilker and his 18-year-old son, Jordan.

Together, the two targeted our culture's emphasis on technology when creating their product.

"If it's not online, if it's not visual, if there's no photograph of it then it doesn't exist," added Wilker. "So we've taken that whole attitude, and everything that's near and dear to his demographic and the millenials of the world, and we incorporated it into this product."

Products will fill suites in the complex, as will employees.Sonic Blocks hopes to employee 5 to ten students within the first 6 to 8 months of business.

They are also looking to manufacturing, engineering and electronic businesses in the town for third party aid.However, one question still remains: Will these businesses succeed?

"You know, that depends a lot on the entrepreneur and what we can support them with," said Assistant Vice President of Innovation Entrepreneurship at Binghamton University Per Stromhaug. "I think these five companies have a good chance of success. I think we have a lot to offer. And I think these are very competent people who know what they are doing."
